Don't bother - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
If you love action films, go see MI:3. If you love comic book adaptations, go see "Superman Returns" (which looks fabulous).
If you loved the last two X-Men films, stay home and don't see this one. You'll be disappointed in the story, the acting, the make-up, everything. Even Wolverine, who usually steals the show, does several things that are completely out of character for him and make no sense.
The direction of the fight scenes is horrible, but the (lack of) direction of the personal moments is worse.

Non-stop action - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
An hour & 45 min of non-stop action. Everyone was at the edge of their seats. No one wanted the movie to come to an end. How could you ask for more? This movie was worth much more than the ticket price. My overall rating is A+.
Wtf - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I was so excited to see this one that I saw the midnight showing with the X-Men nuts, but I was highly dissapointed. I wish I had never gone to see it. Really, I had to convince myself afterwards that the storyline was different just so that I could sleep. It was a weak ending to the trilogy and by killing off all of the strong female characters (only leaving HAlle Berry)is an insult of the deepest kind. Jean GRey finally is in tune with all her powers, making her the most powerful mutant the world has ever seen- but she can't control them and eventually has to be killed.--Womens Lib people? I mean seriously, the strongest mutant ever is a woman that can't learn to harnest her power and instead must be killed, not to mention Rouge gives her's up for a man?! For shame to the writer of the screenplay and to those who excepted this story...its total crap. If it was not for the visuals and the character acting of Wolverine, the Beast and Magneto(I'm quite upset about him too but I don't want to give everything away)I would have demanded my money back.
Wtf? - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
when did it become ok for story tellers to deny the responsibility to tell the story and instead make up their own.
That was so lame. They butchered the pride of the essense that is X-Men. They castrated heros or just killed them off. It was so disrespectful to the fans, but I guess that's ok because 75% of movie goers just wanna see booms and bams and Halle Berry. (Don't get me wrong, I love her, and I love Storm, but she ruined yet another super hero because she's the "it" girl right now. Go win more Oscars hun...)
Where's the responsibility to be true to the story?
I think their biggest flaw was having the war be the focal point of the movie while butchering and adding in the biproducts of the Phoenix Saga. And that was hardly the war. They took down a pharmacy... big deal. Ugh... I wish they'd issue a recall on this movie before all the fans get their feelings hurt. I really never want to see another super hero movie... Doesnt false advertisement work for movies too? I expected to see the GREAT X-Men... Legends... but they were movie maker pawns... or gambits...
BOOO!

Violent end new beginning to x-men franchise - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The movie is rather violent, definitely not the campy style of comic book movies like spider man or batman and robin. Many characters and humans die in the movie, some rather gruesome and disturbing. The visual effects are stunning as well as the fast-paced action. There is some passionate sexual scene in the movie also. Overall the plot is a good one, in which a mutant antibody/cure is formulated and so there begins two sides of the issue. Magneto assembles an army and xavier has his x-men. it's a combination of stories, like the x-men cartoon "graduation day" in which the x-men are left to fend for themselves and to think for themselves.
Without giving away the plot, let's say toward the middle people get shocked and silent b/c something big and violent happens that is quite unexpected and gut-wrenching... it's like "what just happened? that can't be right, can it?" this sets the morose and violence tone to the movie. there is some foul language in the film as well (B word and Dic----- word, etc.)\
There are some twists in the movie, mainly to the characters in the movie, to set a whole new enemies/allies, etc for the most likely next movie sequel (apocolpyse?)... the plot was quick and choppy, but that is b/c a lot information was fit in the movie.
overall, it's an enjoyable movie that i would watch again on dvd... it's rather violent and graphic PG-13/R version. it opens the door of new characters and storylines in the next movie. there's many new characters that are fun to watch and make you excited.
finally, i would stay until the end ie after the credits scroll by, there's an added scene in the end that will relieve some people of what happened prior.
What a movie!! - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I just got back from the midnight showing (which was sold out, btw, and it was on FIVE screens at once) and it WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! The visuals, storyline, acting...everything was on par with the series and made one HELL of a finale to an already superior film trilogy. I LOVED IT, as did everyone I went with. Phoenix/Jean Gray was the best in my opinion, she looked soooo scary as Dark Phoenix, it was perfect. Deaths in the movie, thats all I will say...and they shocked me. Yes, indeed. But what else can you expect for a third installment of a trilogy? They DID however leave it open, I guess you could say. You just have to go and see it for yourself!
DEFINITELY AN A++++ MOVIE!!!!! I predict it breaking box office records, I really do.

Unxpected - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I couldn't wait to see the Last Stand in the Xmen series, but I gotta say I was a little disappointed. Some the characters that we all got to know so well in the previous series role's changed so dramatically or disappeared that it almost makes you want take the script and change up some of the movie. It was still an Xcellent movie, however, and even if you didn't see the previous movies, you'll still feel entertained. This movie is different from the other two in that it has more of a serious mood to it and it's supposed to, but for the fans of the first two in the series it will change your expectations of the film and alot of its characters. The thing that stands out the most about X3 is the amazing visuals and action-packed pace of the story. Even though this movie is quite different from the rest, you'll still leave the theatre feeling "cured" after seeing the final climax the other two had built up. As far as the best overall, though, X2 still holds first place.
The best summer action movie. ***spoiler*** - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The plot is full of tragic and expected events. Phoenix, a class 5 mutant/river/hurricane (you get the picture) as we all knew was going to play a central role to the plot opposite Hugh Jackman whose usually excellent performance is this timed seemingly dragged down by the side characters. You can tell they all wanted more time. It's like Magneto telling Pyro, "Stand back and let the pawns go first". Indeed there are perhaps too many pawns stealing the star power in this flick.
Surrounding this plot is an excessive amount of controversy around cures. At times it seems as belabored as AI's corn starch thick "pinocchio-blue fairy" allusion but by the end, it seemed to have been just subtle enough not to make this a mutant object lesson in pharmacology and disability rights.
The directing did seem to pull off a few good onliners for Hugh Jackman as well as some not so good one liners reminiscent of Han Solo's famous "laugh it up fuzzball" in reference to Chewbacca, I mean Beast as well as a short little "Noooo-argh!" to avoid stealing a Darth Vader line.
This film will provide a bit of tragedy as Charles, Scott die, Mystique and Magneto are cured of their mutant power and...well, I'm not going to spoil all of it but let's just say the very end leaves this open for perhaps a final, last stand after this.
Midnight showing - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The theatre was abuzz tonight. This movie had it all. The audience broke out in applause at least 10 times. I am not a big fanboy but I was seriously impressed. There are a few plot turns and deaths that some people may find disturbing but I definately feel they added to the story. Go see this movie and tell your friends....The x men are bast in the best installment to date in the series...

X-men 3 makes a stand - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Wow. Head out to the theatre now this movie was awesome. I have been waiting for this movie for a long time and it was worth the wait. The visuals for this movie were just awesome. X-Men: The Last Stand was better than the first but not as good as the second. If you wan to ogo see a comic book style action packed Sci-Fi movie its worth the money and don't let any of the people who are giving this F's stop you X-Men fans from seeing the movie just go and have a good time. Another thing the acting was awesome I think that Hugh Jackman does a great job playing Wolverine he can be funny sometimes and serious in the movie and of course has most of the action scenes it was just awesome thats it if your a fan go see it if your not I think you may still like it!!! This is the summer movie everybody has been waiting for!
Better than the second one - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
If you come to see this movie you will not be thinking " Is it almost over???" I do think they killed to many characters and i don't think that Jean Grey should have come back but they gave a logical reason explaining why she came back. Oh and at the first part in the neighborhood there is a guy mowing his lawn. The guy mowing was the writer of the X-MEN comic books. And i think it is neat how they think up different kinds of powers for each person. That would be kind of hard to do. I wish that MYSTIQUE would have been on the movie longer and ROGUE too because I like both of them. I also enjoyed some of the newer characters like that bald guy that could cure the mutants, the bird guy, and BEAST. Oh one other thing i didn't like is that near the end you see magneto at the park near some kind of chess club thing and THIS IS A SPOILER !!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T READ UNLESS YOU HAVE SEEN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!
When the metal chess piece started moving even though he had lost his powers. But that could mean that when ROGUE and BOBBY are holding hands or something that might mean that her powers may come back. Which would mean that the cure was only a temporary thing. Which makes sense since when they are near the boy they can't use their powers. OH AND THAT MEANS MYSTIQUE WILL BE BACK!!!!!!!!! YES!!!!!!!
P.S. Watch after the credits because there is another seen but if you didn't get it scroll down below only if you saw it though....
Aparently there was a guy at this hospital that didnt have a mind but he still lived and when the proffessor dies which i think is stupid just. keep him cuz he comes back and posseses the mind of the guy who had no mind.
A different view than the first two - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Visually - Amazing. The third in the trilogy has what the first two lack, which is serious kick-ass action sequences. This film is X-citing as hell, but not without problems, especially for the X-men purists. There are hints at deeper meanings, which the first two films gave in full, but only momentarilly in this one.
If you are a BIG fan of the comics, espeically Chris Claremont's work on them, you'll both appreciate this one as well as maybe be upset at a few parts. If not, then you may not have a problem with anything, or at the same time, maybe you won't appreciate it as much either.
Nevertheless, if you enjoyed the first two, and you want to see the summer started off with a bang, this is the movie to see!

Someone dropped the ball - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Well, all i'm going to say is someone dropped the ball......BAD. The Director and Screen Writer need to be shot for trying to think "outside the box" and trying to be creative. The movie had NOTHING to do with X Men, it's like someone tried making there own story with X Men characters. Seriously not even worth watching, it might even be the worst movie i've even seen. Best of the movie was the previews..... Snakes on Planes.
X3 - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
At first I thought this movie wouldn't do as much as the first two X-Men's because Brett Ratner was directing it. But when I saw the traliers and the TV Spots for it, it looked like Ratner was knowing what he was doing!!! I think X3 was the best one out of the series. The visuals were perfect and the battles were so awesome!!! It was all perfect! I wish that Nightcrawler would have come back. The story was well written, about the cure. I think Brett's directing was a little better than what Bryan Singer had done. I really recommend this movie, it is way better than the first two film, and I think you'll have a blast!! Out of 5, it's a 4.5.
The ultimate last stand... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
X3 was a superb finish to an extroadinary trilogy, i say trilogy just because these are the first three x-men movies to made. action-packed loaded with even more mutants, this movie is a great final chapter.
The story of Jean Gray and her other identity of Phoenix lead into the whole premise of the movie, mutants fighting for their lives as a cure for their mutant chromosome has been discovered. This movie effectively establishes a point, characters, and their actions; all of that compiled with exciting action sequences and fights, you will leave the theatre rather pleased.
Unfortunately, not everyone gets to make it this time, so those who don't know don't worry, i am not going to ruin it for you.
I was most pleased that even though this movie was not directed by Bryan Singer, Brett Ratner did an excellent job in closing out this trilogy. Combine great directing, with believable acting, and superb visuals, you end up with X3: The "Ultimate" Last Stand.
So X3, again, closes out this trilogy with a bang. It also effectively leads into the upcoming projects of Wolverine and Magneto, as they become more of the dominant characters. X3 is one to remember and not one to disappoint.

No...just no - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
im sorry but this movie sucked. My first and biggest point, Phoenix, so not even close. Yes i understand:2 hours, the only have two hours to tell a tale spaning a good lenght of a series. I could have exepted the retelling of the phoenix as made in the story (i wont spoil it) if. First i like the parallel of dark and light phoenix that was cool, but if shes the phoenix why dont we ever see it, WHERE IS THE BLOOD GIANT BURN BIRD, you know the thing in the end of 2. Gay super power, i can pick things up and disintegrate things with my mind, so not even anything like the phoenix. Second, that was a great op for them to explain rogues superpowers for the movie, those dumb basterds. remember that 2 hours thing, yeah rogue has a huge back story and it could have all been skipped by have rogue take phoenixes power, she can fly, shes super strong, and could kick marvel girls ass.
i know that most people will find this a rant from a comic book nerd, well i am, but as a person watching the movie series and viewing it as a new chapter and retelling story, it still sucks. They could have at least justified some things they started in the first one. you know, rogue sucking, anything about weapon x u think they got it right the first time (haha), GAMBIT, and not killing Cyclops like that u basterds.
There are some good points about this movie, they actually get somethings right. BLUE TEAM, storm, wolverine, colossus, kitty, ice souldnt be there but its cool, he always kicks ass. Thats right bobby, they do a great job on u. Beast kicked ass, and angel was cool. this movie gets its does, has some good parts and cool nerd *****, but just to much wrong, to much combining of characters (Quicksilver, scarlot witch, calesto and so on), characters that shouldnt be there like spike, Jamie Madrox (horrible apperance) and so not even as cool as he should be, and plague. This movie is a bad end of a series, and even if it isnt over, they have still ruined some of my favorite childhood comic characters for me. Worst ending ever, crap, and anyone who knows anything, the cure isnt permanent. READ THE COMICS ITS SO MUCH BETTER.
You got to be kidding me... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
One was okay, Two was great, Three was the biggest piece of crap a 400 pound person could excrete! For all of you that didn't collect the cards or get into X-men-the Phoenix was pretty much the one of the biggest and exciting characters in the X-men franchanise. However, in the movie she is so boring and lame and off who she is suppose to be.
And talk about a horrible plot! Not only that the movie was ridiculously choppy! You get no explanation of characters and you have to be an Avid X-men reader or follower to get what some of the characters' significance are.
I swear, the movie spend more time in the President's confess room then anywhere else.
NOT ONLY THAT THE WORST PART WAS THE BATTLES. If you saw the commericals for X-men you basically saw all the good battle scences. WHat a disappointment, especially since i went to see it at 12 am and i had to go to work at 6:30!
I am brett ratner, destroyer of worlds - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
TheWife and I just returned from seeing X-Men 3: The Last Stand. Why is it called "The Last Stand"? Because God willing, there will never be another piece of foam crap like this unleashed on the unsuspecting public.
The writer of this piece of drivel must have, at some point, thought to himself "I am pretty good at pissing off my friends, and most of my family. How can I use that skill on the masses? I know, I'll take a cultural icon and pull a Highlander 2 on it!"
Seriously, watching this movie was like watching baby Seals being clubbed, but only after the clubbers took 18 bucks off of each of them.
The movie started off with promise, then the three minute mark hit and it suddenly took a belly flop off of Niagra Falls. There were scenes in this movie that you could hear the whole audience groan together, like some large and rusty door being slowly opened.
My question is this. Why does Brett Ratner hate audiences. There was no point to this film other than making legions of fans crazy mad. The only thing that could have made this worse if there was some kind of sexual trist between Wolverine and The Beast, filmed in a clinical manner with play by play explanations as to what was going on.
This movie is the "Showgirls" of comic book movies. This makes "Catwoman" seem Oscar candidate worthy. This script is probably why Bryan Singer jumped ship and went to 'Superman'.

Dissapointing - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
***Spoilers so dont read if you haven't seen the movie***
Xmen3: The Last Stand is possibly one of the most dissapointing movies i have ever seen. I was excited to see that the Phoenix saga was going to be a big factor for the movie based on the ending of X2. The direction that was taken though clearly did not stay anywhere near what the comics had established. 10 minutes into the movie the undisputed leader of the Xmen, Cyclops, is killed. How can u do this. Cyclops is one of the most important of all the xmen. This is where things begin to decline. I know that the movie couldn't use the actual way that Jean Grey becomes Phoenix, but the way the movie decribes it, it seems that Phoenix is this completely evil prescense that shows no remorse nor cares about anything which is completely not true. The Phoenix is not completely evil in fact, it stays in a constant battle between good and evil. Things take a complete nose dive to oblivion when Jean Grey in all her rage kills Professor X. At this point in time i cannot imagine how Stan Lee didn't object to this. From here on out the movie strays further and further from the Marvel comics which lead to even more dissapointment.
Another thing that i didn't like was that they introduced new mutants but they didn't really develop the characters enough. It was cool to see the new mutants and their powers but there was no story to them. They were just there for some battles and then they died. There could have been a few more scenes with Angel, other than the 3 he was in.
If the attempt to depict the Phoenix saga was already bad enough, i could not believe the way Juggernaut was depicted. The scene where the Xmen first enounter Juggernaut had the makings for much disaster. Here is professor X with just Wolverine and Storm walking up to Juggernaut. And nothing happens. I guess he no longer is professor x's half brother and wishes to kill him. so the having juggernaut is actually quite dissapointing minus one key phrase.
There is much more that makes this movie dissapointing with the way Rouge is depicted, how Collossus and Kitty are now a main members but there is no development to their characters, and the unecessary fight scenes.
The one bright note was Ian McKellen's portrayal of Magneto. He continued to do a great job of showing how Magneto depises humans for the treatments of mutants everywhere.
This could have been a good movie had more time been put into it to develop the story in a way that was closer to the comics. If there is a 4th movie which was left open with the end, i hope that the movie is taken into a darker direction.
So dark the con of this movie - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
My God, my God. I am so, so, so disappointed. If Hollywood wonders why it's loosing money these days, X-Men: The Last Stand is one very good reason. First, I am a life long X-Men fan. Second, I am a college educated, at one time militant, African American. That means I relate to the X-Men story in ways people who are not like me can't understand. Being born a mutant in the community majority's eyes. Of course I know what it feels like to be viewed as "different." Of course I know what it feels like to have your view of the world dismissed as 'mutant'. I was born with it, like the X-Men. I speak from deep, psychological regions when I say I relate to the whole X-Men story line. So, to me, this movie, and the first two movies are profoundly important in ways that I can't put into words. Before you start saying I'm taking this way to seriously, remember, "Birth of A Nation" still has an impact on American movie making and Hollywood stereotypes today. Now to the movie.
***Spoiler Alert***
First, Cyclops getting killed off in the first 10 minutes of the movie is just plain wrong. It's obvious the movie's pollsters asked fans who should go? Wolverine or Cyclops. Take the red eye. And correct me if I'm wrong, here, but did Prof X call Dark Phoenix "Raven" at one point? Who is that? While I'm on that subject, why did Ratner (the Director) make her look like some anorexic demon-possessed bird when she flared up? And why was she made to be so important anyway when in the comic she killed herself. This was incredibly dumb, insulting, etc. It seems the producers said in a smoke filled room: "No one really reads that comic anyway. Who cares what they think. Most fans don't know ***** about the story so let's make it sexy." For some reason, assasination comes to my mind right now. But let me digress. As for the story itself, if they wanted to, the mutants could easily wipe out mankind. That's never a question; The question of should they and how would the world go on without the delicate balance is the foundation of the coexistence in the comic. The movie really played up the Us Against Them angle when, if it were all real, it wouldn't be that way at all. It would be Us killed by Them, quite easily.
The movie is an abomination in the eyes of real X-Men fans and I have to believe the major reviewers are getting some kind of payoloa to promote this waste of time. So much expository was just a bore. So much of it was all on the nose that it seemed like an amateur script writer and director put it together... not the brilliant mind of someone who would direct "The Usual Suspects." The whole Golden Gate Bridge thing was obvious superfluous C.G. and distasteful considering the number of innocent people who had to have died. (I know it's movie making, but writers of good movies have respect for life, fiction, fantasy or not. It's like blowing up the entire planet... that's not cool, man.) There's so much to say about this movie, but I'm getting angry thinking about the movie to write this review. So, let me end by saying this plain and simple. This movie sucked. Bad. With teeth!!!
You've got to be kidding-and i'm a huge fan! - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
OK SPOILERS, DON'T read if you don't want to know
I grew up watching the orginal cartoon version of the x-men in the late 80's, even read a couple of the comics and well.........the actions of some of the chars in the film is horrid....Rogue who when I was little gave new meaning to girl power and was my hero in this movie(which I barely forgave them for making her a darn teen in the movie series in the first place) actually willingly GIVES up her power cause she is afaird of losing her boyfriend!
I will say they finally made Storm more of the leader she is suppose to be, but what was with putting her in two fights with the same black chick(another mutant)....what is it just cool to see Halle Berry fight another decent black chick???
Wolverine was great just because LOL, no he really was great, they played his card right.
SPOILER directly below
Scott died....now he was never my fav even back in the day, but I respected him and the way he died was....pointless, he wasn't even fighting, and the few other minutes he had in the film had him crying and weeping over Jean like a little punk.
Magneto(is that spelled right LOL) was excellent in everything, from his role to his personality in the movie.
two other X-men died, two HUGE main people, one I will say is Jean....now they played the Pheonix angle horrible, they took something that gave life to the x-men comics and cartoons and made it more like a mindless spoiled child who couldn't have her way, or a mental patient with powers on a rampage. They could have done so much more with it.
The last person...well I won't say, and I will says they are not really dead, which is the only saving grace for this movie.
Now, the theme of the movie was slow, and very little fighting until the last 15 mins, There were some good visuals, it was weighted down by the supposed political jargan of the plot. THere was no substance to the movie, it really did feel like they peiced together good scenes of 3 different movies they were trying to make.
If they make more movies as they hinted at, When I buy the collection I really do think I will just skip number 3 and you should too, rent it on video so you can be disgusted in the comfort of your own home, and only pay 3 bucks instead of the 11 I paid...and that's not even including the slushy I bought.

Did the director have any respect for the comics!? - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Well he could've have if he directed X3 which was the worst of all. And honestly, not to down talk anyone, the movie would've been good if u didnt seriously know anything about the X universe. Im surprised that Stan Lee even let it go on knowing how the script was.
First off if you're gonna to put the phoenix in a movie, Cyclops is the second most important and last character that should've died. Once again Cyclop was usless in another X men movie becuz of Berry and Jackman.
If u couldnt tell, the movie was mostly made for Wolverine and Storm. Everyone else was just there becuz u cant make an entire movie with just 2 actors. Basically thats all it was.
In the comics, Wolverine was never a leader like he was in the movie. The movie was based off favoritism becuz of who Wolverine is and who played the character of Wolverine and Storm.
Where was the hatred that Juggernaut had for his step brother Charles? Charles just rolled right by Jugg. and it was as if they were strangers to each other. For some stupid reason, Jugg. is a mutant which was very untrue in the comic.
I could go on about the movie but i got a life and i just hope the director could see what i wrote and know that Bryan Singer would've done a TOTALLY different movie that was gonna be great. Dont believe me, then wait til u see Superman Returns.
X-men review from a true comic book fan... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
well i just came back from seeing the first show this morning.
I've been a x-men fan since i first read the comic way back when i was really young. I since read every comic, book, etc... since up till a few years ago when everything started to change and they got a new look.
The first movie wasn't as good as i expected... I had high hopes of seeing my childhood heros on the big screen.. maybe to high... but it wasn't a complete waste of my time. It was ok,,, the 2nd one got a little better but the story was skipping ahead and all over the place in the x-men world...
now we have X3 the last stand. The start of the movie was great. It seemed they finally got wolfverines character down... but there were many things as a old school fan as myself noticed was wrong... yes its a good movie for those that aren't into x-men as strongly as i used to be but for new fans it is great i'm sure.
One thing that really stood out was juggernuts role... Now here is a little background on him 1. He's not a mutant! sorry but i am not sure what they have him made out to be in the newer x-men comics but the oldjuggernut was not a mutant. He is the stepbother of Professor X. 2. His power comes from a gemstone which he had placed inside his helmet. Once the helmet is off.. he returns to normal. that is the real background on him...
there are much more little stuff like that in all 3 movies that kind of made me not like them as much due to it not sticking to the true story line.
Overall... even a die hard fan like me.. got around some of those little mistakes and thought overall it was a decent movie. It is way better then the other 2. The graphics are very nice, the action is non-stop and it touches you.
Not bad... not bad at all... maybe one day they will make a movie that is true to a comic...
X3---> unbelievably a disappointment.... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
What a disappointment this movie is. Don't all Xmen fans...hear me...don't you think this movie would have been better if Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix is the main topic for the X4 movie?
The third movie should have been better if it was Professor X and his Xmen vs. Magneto and his brotherhood. This simple idea would have been able to create a better action packed movie, in which most xmen and non-xmen fan would enjoy.
The director should have known that Cyclops never died, nor professor X in the real story. What is so difficult not to include Jean Grey in this movie. Jean Grey/Phoenix would have been a wonderful 4th movie. Yet, I believe that there is favoritism here and its definitely obvious.
Wolverine and Storm were the only leaders left in this movie. This doesn't make sense. I'm so mad at the director that I don't wanna mention his name in this review.
Mr. Director, I forgive you for making a very disappointing movie. Pls. don't do this again because you will only create enemies and you don't wanna do that. This movie showed that you are only concerned about making a big paycheck and not concerned about making a movie that will excite all fans and non fans of the Xmen.

It is better in almost every way then x 1 & 2 - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Most entertaining movie of 2006
Not only is it much better than the first 2 movies, but it stands so well on its own that you don't need to have seen its predecessor.
'X3" is as irresistible as movie-theater popcorn - a lavish, reasonably intelligent, well-acted sequel with kick-butt effects that outdoes its predecessor, in almost every department.
The bulk of the film is fun and genuinely entertaining
The action is delivered with dash and ingenuity - even humor - and very neatly executed effects,
The movie's multitude of visual effects, exotic makeup, stunts and miniatures blends smoothly together to create a comic book world that feels real
This movie is for everybody, I strongly recommend everyone who hasn't seen it to do so. Even if you don't like these kinds of movies...I?m positively sure you will enjoy this one.
Xtreme! this movie pushes everything to the xtreme - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
As the stroy of X-men 1 and X2: X-men United end, this one leaves of.
This film is full of fun an excitement non stop
The first time I heared Bryan Singer wasnt going to continue the X-men trilogy, I was really disappointed. I thought he could have done a great job. Then it switched from hearing that another director join, then the company trashed him then the come apon Brett Ratner. A wise choce in my opinion. I think he did a fantastic job with the conculsion of the Dark Phoenix Trilogy.
The acting in X-men 3:TLS was phenomenal, I thought that the actors hit thier parts right on head. The one who I just believe was the best was Kelsey Grammer. Kelsey Grammer was born to play the role as Beast, The voice, I thought just puts him into Beast. Ofcourse Hugh Jackman did a great job, just like X1 and X2. The one thing I really didn't like was Storms acting. I love Halley Barry she is a great actress. I just thought she was very agressive, I understand why this was happening I just was turned off by that.
The visual are awesome. The powers where greatly made through the special effects I've ever seen. They have to at least win some reward I would believe in the Visual department.
Really, Overall this film is full of fun an excitement non stop even though they had to change the director, to me didn't change a thing it only made it better.
PS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do watch this film stay till after the credits are over, you'll thank me later.
Save your money......... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
*****Spoiler****** Do not read this if you do not wish to have your movie going experience ruined... although there is a good chance that it still will be...
Almost all the main characters either lose there powers or die by the end of the movie.... There story is based on a "cure" from a mutant that cancels other mutants powers when they come to close..... and thats about it... visuals were nice all the actors were good... just the story and where it goes is not true to x-men... and most of the greatest x-men characters are not even featured in the film.... most of the focus is on wolvie.. hence him having his own movie.... all I can say is that its not worth the money... It was ruined in the first 10 minutes and went even more downhill from there...

X-men 3 - a fitting finale - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
X-Men 3 has certainly copped a lot of flak from the fans of X1 and X2 mainly due to the fact that Brett Ratner was directing it and that it is the very last X-Men movie. In my opinion however, Brett Ratner did well and I certainly hope that this will not be the last movie. If it is though, it is a fitting finale.
The plot follows the debate between mutants and humans alike after a cure for the Mutant X Gene is discovered. Mutants like Rogue (Anna Paquin) would definitely be tempted but others, namely, Magneto (Sir Ian McKellan) is completely opposed to it.
X-Men 3 introduces a bevy of new characters and amongst them are the winged Angel (Ben Foster)the furry fan favourite, Beast (Kelsey Grammer). Angel is definitely the most underused and overhyped character. He appears on posters everywhere but if you've seen the various clips online that features him, you've seen about 98% of Angel. I was disappointed with the way they handled Cyclops (James Marsden). He is and always has been the leader of the X-Men but is absent for so much of the movie and I won't spoil what happens to him though I admit that the rumours are true. Another thing that I was not too happy with.
I've always liked Wolverine but he got on my nerves for quite a bit in this show especially when it came to his relationship with the resurrected Jean Grey/Dark Phoenix (Famke Janssen). Halle Berry totally kicks ass as Storm and I'm glad to see her get a bigger role and take charge over the X-Men this time around and boy does she fly!
It is always fun to watch Magneto get up to his dastardly manipulative ways and he totally overshadows Professor Xavier (Patick Stewart). The little speech that Magneto makes at a mutant gathering is powerful and totally reminiscent of his experience with the horrors of the Holocaust when he was a boy. It is probably why he feels so strongly against being rounded up and given the cure and I think that Ratner conveys Magneto's intentions very well indeed. Magneto probably did get what he deserved at the end and it's over for him now or is it?
The best part of the movie would probably the last 1/2 hr or to put it simply, anytime during and after Magneto and his Brotherhood storm the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransisco.
The fight between Pyro (Aaron Stanford) and Iceman (Shawn Ashmore) left me salivating for more and I wished that Colossus (Daniel Cudmore), Kitty Pryde/Shadowcat (Ellen Page), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn) would have more screen time and lines. I liked how Brett Ratner introduced so many more mutants because we could get a glimpse as to what amazing abilities other mutants have. The CGI is awesome and so is the wirework. And how cool would it be to have Dark Phoenix's powers where you can do anything you can think of...wow! The makeup for Famke Janssen is very nicely done as well and when Phoenix rules over Jean Grey, you can literally see the darkness and terror reigning on her face.
Oh and do pay attention to what Xavier has to say as he is teaching a class accompanied by a video of his friend, Dr Moira MacTaggart, who is with a catatonic patient. And do stay after the credits as there is a little tease that will leave you going, "Whoa!" or "What was that?" (Depending on how much attention you pay to the details of the movie)
On the whole it is definitely not as bad as some critics have panned it out to be. X-Men 3 in my opinion is definitely better than the 1st one and on par with the 2nd but I can't say which is better. My biggest problem would be the rapid cuts from one character's story to the next that occurs throughout the film, giving everything a very rushed and confusing feel. Clearly I must watch it again to fully appreciate X-Men 3. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again: The X-Men movies are the best comic book adaptation in the history of comic book adaptations. Brilliant!

The truth! it's crapovision at it's finest! - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The movie starts out with Professor X and Magneto visiting Jean Grey for the first time. The director gave a 70's look and feel to the introduction. After that it's all down hill.
Jean Grey comes back from the dead, but she is caught between her personallity and the Dark Pheonix persona that has been dormant for most of her life. Needless to say, she kills Cyclops within the first 10 minutes of the movie. Professor X confronts her and dies about 20 minutes later in her childhood home.
I can't hardly even bring myself to write the spoilers for it, because it SUCKED so bad! The special effects all looked like they were done in the 30's. Think of the original King Kong and Godzilla movies! The look and feel of the movie reminded me of a cheesy 70's invaders from mars type movie. They kill off or nutralize the powers of almost every major mutant, both the X-Man and the Brotherhood. The new characters get almost no screen time, except Beast. The hole movie sets you up for a 15 minute fight at the end that sucked as well.
I couldn't recommend this movie even if you had free tickets. I know the background of the characters and own both of the first 2 movies. I thought the 2nd was better than the first, but if anyone thinks this is anywhere close to X1 or X2, then they have no clue what a good movie is. Don't waste your money.
Good movie, but full of holes - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
First, X3 did fair justice to the previous two, and did an admirable job of incorporating some complex issues from the comic books, granted that it is nearly impossible to follow them verbatim; something had to change to make it onto the big screen. From the beginning, it feels rushed, but captures your attention and pulls you into the story, but there's an uneasy tension to the entire film. The movie jumped right into action sequences with an assumption that viewers were familiar with the previous movies, and did a great job of introducing a version of the dark phoenix saga to help explain (barely!) about Jean Grey, and why she has such internal conflict about her powers...
Speaking of powers, here's where the writing and direction had their greatest shortcomings (and don't forget that Brett Rattner is NOT the writer!): X-Men is all about mutants with POWERS, and we want to see them. As the characters are (or should have been) developed, they need to increasingly explore and demonstrate their powers to the audience, and in X3 we're only offered small exerpts of their true abilities. We should have seen explosions of power from the team, at new levels, but alas we only are offered glimpses.
Cyclops is killed, but we don't see it. Damn. Angel runs like a sissy and isn't a strong character in the movie. Colossus barely gets any screen time; he should have been given more fight scenes (ie with Juggernaught) and allowed to demonstrate his strength. Movie physics were rampant... unrealistic, especially with the fastball. Too many of the flying scenes were obviously done on wires, and should have had their acceleration tweaked in CGI, especially the fastball. Pyros fireballs seemed slow and pathetic compared to the high-speed arcs we first saw in X2.
Overall the graphics were done well, but had many rough edges. In the first two movies, Mystique's transformations were nicely done, with good detail and blending, but looked amateurish and obviously fake in X3. Some of the outlying debris on the bridge scenes were overlooked; bad alpha blends, physics were wrong, unrealistic splashes or missing particle explosions... very fake looking, especially the support cables on the bridge which followed simple bezier curves (or were stationary!) instead of complex motion based on their materials properties which would have added more realism.
The direction and editing are suspect, as this movie was easily an hour shorter than it should have been. There are MANY holes in the story and individual plot lines that should have been more carefully explored. Scenes felt as if they were pasted together, and a lot of new scenes left the audience asking, "okay, now what's happening?" such as when Wolverine began his fight in the forest. When the mutants appeared on the bridge, it was sunny and not yet dusk, but when the bridge landed and the battle ensued, it was fully nighttime, yet the scenes were sequential and had no time lapse in between. Like I said, full of holes... and there were many more. Before Magneto tore out the bridge, he should have said, "These humans don't realize our TRUE power." Then BOOM! He rips out the whole bridge with some stretching tension and then a big bang and explosion, with intense fury (even for its size), with overboard gigantic subharmonics and crackling attack! In X3, it was impressive, but done too slowly. You knew he was powerful, but it could have been presented to the audience with more impact, rather than so much slow motion.
It was great to see Shadowcat actually showing off her powers, and Iceman finally turned to full ice (for about 2 seconds), and his battle with Pyro was cheap and short. That should have been a major scene. Beast was AWESOME throughout and I can't say anything bad about Kelsey or his acting, and wish that the fight scenes with Beast were'nt so chopped up and rushed, but kept him centered more without all of the quick cuts. Again, way too rushed, as if the movie was in a hurry to finish.
Overall I did certainly enjoy the movie, but left a bit disappointed. I've been waiting on pins and needles for over a year for this movie, and tonight at the midnight showing I finally got to see it, but felt like I was being ushered out the door as quickly as possible. Heopfully in X4 we'll get to see the mutants REALLY show off their full powers like we've never before seen (in X1-X3), because this is what makes us feel the awe and amazement. Sure the added emotional impact of the major characters' deaths was dramatic, as were many of the scenes, but this movie should have been about POWERS!!! Let's hope X4 will restore our faith in the X-Men.

Majorly disappointed... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Went to the midnight showing last night and can honestly say, it wasn't worth being this tired for. I've been so excited to see this movie for MONTHS and it was a major let down. There is virtually no character development and all the new characters they introduce make very brief appearances. Most disappointing is the "lack" of important characters. (You'll know what I mean when you see it...) The story line, while interesting, felt rushed...the movie should have been much longer. It's entertaining but NOT the best of the X-Men flicks. See it in the theatre, but go to a matinee.
The acting is great and the effects are amazing. You definately have to see it in the theatre to appreciate the sound too.
***NOTE*** BE SURE TO STAY THROUGH THE CREDITS. THERE IS A (VERY) SHORT SCENE THAT I THINK INDICATES THE POSSIBILITY OF ANOTHER MOVIE.
If you like the x-men dont see this movie - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Okay here is the low down. The movie IS the FINAL X-Men movie to be made. If you thought they should have stopped at X-1, your going to hate this movie. Im a pretty leanient guy towards comic to movie adaptations but when they decide to start milking the box office for a quick bankroll that makes me mad.
(SPOILERS)
The movie's visuals were great, we got to see things we wanted in the last few movies but they were only teasing with such as Iceman finally takes a ice form, Collosus finally made the cut. They even show off the infamous fast ball special with Collosus throwing Wolverine. As well as a small but unspoken tease of a sentinal.
The movie is about a cure to the mutant DNA. We all know with that as a basis someone is gonna lose their mutant powers and were all going to be mad for it. The lowdown that will make you hate this movie is.... Xavier, Jean Grey, Scott Summers, as well as a few unspoken X-Men/ Brotherhood DIE.... Magneto, Mystique, Rogue, as well as a few other unspokens LOSE THEIR POWERS....for good? I can only assume.
This in my opinion was a slap in the face to an X-Fan, I recall walking out of the theatre speachless for liking the movie for cool visuals and seeing other characters come to life, but in the long run i felt like somone puched me in the gut for being the fan I am and for so long.
Wow!!! if you left b4 end of previews.... - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I am not going to give anything away other than the fact that this is not the end!!! this movie will not grab and excite you as much as the previous two, but it will act as a gateway for (yes, this is correct) the next movie! Little does the audience know, but this film is just a filler. Setting up the remaining story that needs to and will be told!
The movie starts as expected with everybody at the acadamy still shaken and disturbed from the loss of Jean and the imminent problems still revolving around her complex character. Jean is the most powerful mutant in the world and if you didnt already know that she has not breathed her final breath then you are not to worried about the plot anyway.
What we learn is that Jean is a god among mutants and can turn the world upside down with her power. She has breathtaking beauty and a stare that can put a man on his knees and turn him to dust...
Further, as you have seen in the previews, Magnito is forming an army of Mutants to bring an end to a supposed cure, formed to "aid" mutants and take away their problems. As usual, professor x and company cannot and will not allow this to happen and thus the battle for dominance begins... again. Enjoy!!!
For parents... This movie is very suitable for any child who can handle a few (very few) cuss words and some pretty amazing fight scenes (no blood).
Other than that enjoy this movie as i did... but most importantly (WAIT TIL AFTER THE PREVIEWS!!! WHAT YOU WILL SEE WILL BLOW YOUR MIND AND PREPARE YOU FOR THE FUTURE OF XMEN ON THE BIG SCREEN!!!!!!!!!)

A cure is found, sadly it cant revive this film - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
To start, I'll say I personally have no emotional attachments to the x men comics, never read them as a child, although I was familiar with most of the characters. I saw these three movies because theres something cool about mutants possessing different powers. So having x-men and xmen2 under my belt, I figure why not, I'll give the 3rd one a shot. I've been anticipating this film for awhile, granted Mr Singer is no longer aboard, but hey Brett Ratner can get the job done, I mean he's working with same cast, how bad could it be?
Well its bad, and not Incredible Hulk bad, or even Fantastic Four bad, but compared to its predecessors it is dreadful. If this truly is the last of the x men movies, it hurts even more.
Most people have waited to see the story of the "phoenix" unfold, and prepare to be disappointed, Jean Grey has maybe 7 lines of dialogue throughout the movie, and there is no struggle between Jean Grey and Phoenix, they basically skip ahead to her transformation into Dark Phoenix, who destroys buildings and disintegrates people all the while looking like a ghost from a haunted house.
A cure has been found for mutants, they say its voluntary for any mutant interested, turns out they intend on using it on all mutants, Magneto is upset by this forms an army to fight the cure and destroy the mutant child who helped to produce this cure; meanwhile the x men (6 strong now because Mr Ratner decided to re write the history of this series and kills off two xmen in the first half hour) decide to stop Magneto (although they disagree with the cure of mutants, but they wont let magneto go in and take care of business, weird) and also they want to rescue jean grey, blahblahblah. Theres a few good action sequences, especially during the climatic scenes on Alcatraz...Storm is alot better this time around, Wolverine gets some action in, and this stuff is entertaining briefly. Finally the end of the movie draws near. I was looking at my watch frequently throughout the movie, by substraction I figured maybe theres 15minutes left.... Phoenix (who at this point hasnt spoken or lifted a finger in 45 minutes) decides to ripe everything to shreds, including mutants, humans, alcatraz. Most of the mutants are smart and decide to bail, Wolverine sticks around because apparently hes the only one that can stop her, and somehow he's adapted the new power of healing peeling flesh from his body, hmmm...and he gets to use his claws one last time to set things right.
I understand that when it comes to a trilogy, theres alot you have to cram in to close a franchise; however, in a case like the x men youre not allowed to rewrite what actually happens to these characters, that doesnt make a good movie, its only going to enrage the xmen/marvel fans, like or not, these are the people that matter. Lets be honest, these movies are made for fans of the xmen comics, everyones invited of course, but these adaptations are made to make these people proud. Bryan Singer at least didnt veer too far from the original storyline..I guess I can blame the writers too for how the movie progresses, but ultimately its the directors vision and his duty to say 'no this isnt right, it has to be changed' but he didnt.
X-men: 'do we want this to be' the last stand? - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
As a huge fan of X-Men and X2 I could not wait til X-Men 3 came out and i'll admit my expectations were very high but us finally seeing the danger room or a sentinal (head only) or the unstoppable juggernaut isn't what i had hoped to be the best parts of the movie. I had a feeling this was just going to be a big budget blowout as a finale to a very successful franchise and unfortunately i was right. Although the story wasnt that bad as far as being a fan of X-Men one could ask what were they thinking?
(warning: *spoilers ahead)
Since when is the phoenix a split personality not a being of destruction throughout the universe. Now at first the story started out very well we got to see some cool things and we see Cyclops still grieving over Jean Grey which i had expected but knew they werent going to give Cyclops the screen time he deserved. *Dont even get me started on they just kill off Cyclops like he was never a big character in X-Men.* Then of course Magneto once again fighting for mutant superiority comes along as he recruits his so called army.
I really dont know why this has to be the last x-men movie for anyone who has at least seen the cartoon show knows of at least a dozen villains that can be featured in a movie but no lets just keep the old guy from lord of the rings as the bad guy for every x-men movie. A little side note i do like lord of the rings. Anyway the story stayed at a certain level of interest never really increasing with nothing more than a couple of dramatic scenes although there were a couple of scenes that were pretty funny.
Then of course "the cure" played a very large part in the film as in when angel is introduced to take the cure which he refuses and does that cool jumping out of the window and flying thing. But that was pretty much it Angel didnt do anything the rest of the movie seriously dont see him for like an hour then talks a little then we see at end briefly twice but i am glad to say Beast was awesome i think Kelsey Grammar did a great job.
Now with a movie crammed with so many characters what does a writer think of to do 'hm lets just have phoenix destroy everything at the end' and her demise although dramatic was too simple. It feels like Brett Ratner and the producers put all these things in the movie to really press the fact that this was going to be the last one with deaths that are just like oh come on thats not right and life changing choices made by the cure to a couple of characters. The ending was okay kinda left everyone at peace but we do see a character doing something significant only a for a second then it goes to black. But be sure to stick around after the credits for another significant clip.
The bottom line for this movie is it was good not great but good and when i say good i mean like matrix revolutions good but x-men 3 was far more satisfying. I say X-men 3 is worth your money a little bit of disappointing closure for x-men fans and a pretty cool and dramatic film for moviegoers
Just be at peace knowing that this summer's catch phrase will be "Don't you know who I am? I'm the Juggernaut B****!"
A total insult !!! - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I pinned high hopes on this sequel and i am utterly utterly utterly disappointed.
The effects? Well, King Kong, LOTR, Matrix, Harry Pot had better ones.
Plot development?..totally crap. Full of lame corny lines. Eg.calling Juggernaut a dick head....pls..he is one of the greatest villian and he sure deserve some respect !
And Magneto on TV..he reminds me of Mr Osama..esp addressing to his mighty army in this run down camp..
Wats the President of United States thinking..taking the Mighty Mutant Force with some a handful of puny soldiers..n calling for Gods Help??..cliche n lame..
And wat abt Angel with some stoopid belt strapped across him..though i love the scene on his childhood..but then..delibrately staging the scene where his dad got to be flung off the building..so tt he can save him..show how lame the director is..
But some Pros too..i like the steamy foreplay scene Jean had with Wolv..and the evil look of Jean..good illustration of the Dark Phoenix.
I had been a Xmen Fan since 6..and I think this show is a total insult to all characters and the author of X MEN
Why did the hell Marvel Entertainment allow this ??
My suggestion..get Peter Jackson to do this..

Read this..... you will thank me - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Ok im not making you read my review for the sake of reading what i have to say, im making you read it because you will thank me when you watch it.
Firstly i was worried after i read some negative reviews on it, but let me say its freakin awsome. loved it. Im not sure if its as good as the first, thats still up in the air, but its better then the second. The special FX in this are amazing, they go all out in the final chapter... the story line is easy to follow. You will laugh and some of you may cry at the events that happen in it.
They say that this will be the final xmen, but some how im not sure of it.
ok now comes the point where u will thank me. Once the movie is finished..... dont leave. WAIT TILL THE END OF THE CREDITS. THE MOVIE STILL CONTINUES OK........
Im not a die hard fan, but i loved it, my friend whom is a die hard fan, didnt like it because of the events that happen, but as a movie he really enjoyed it. So die hard XMEN fans you may not like it, but those of us who want a good action movie hopefully win.
The ?glorious? last stand - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
Selflessness, sacrifice, loss?
By these three words I summarize to you what made this movie so great.
"X-Men 3: The Last Stand" is one of very few movies where the sequel had something new to offer and went beyond expectations showing implacable storyline quality and fascinating visual effects. It repaired most of the damage that the second installment of X-Men (X-Men United) caused by its dull events and character chemistry. X-3 reminded me how the 5th installment of Batman (Batman: Begins) turned out to be an unexpected wonderful surprise. In this installment which is the concluding third and final of a rather successful comic based trilogy. Nothing is more moving and tragic when several of the good guys meet their fates. Be prepared for unexpected and interesting turn of events. This one is NOT the classic "good" wins "bad" loses in the usual childish simplicity.
Jean (Janssen) is a big pillar in the plot however her dialog was very limited being busy destroying everything comes across her way (reminds us of Willow in season 6 finale of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer). Wolverine (Jackman) as always the one who makes X-Men the great movie it is by being the reckless and rude yet big hearted mutant whom stands in the end to save the day. Magneto (McKellen) brings his usual undisputed performance and credibility to the role. Professor X (Stewart) does his good old character ever since Star Trek. The Beast (Kelsey (a.k.a. Frasier Crane)) gave a magnificent performance as the diplomat whom toward the end showed the ability to kick some mutant butt.
X-Men: The Last Stand definitely goes into the collectibles. If you liked the first part of X-Men, I guarantee you are going to LOVE this one!!
Hint: If you didn?t see the movie yet, don?t leave the movie in a hurry, there is a twist at the end.
Whats wrong with x-3: the director!!! - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The famous maxim that runs "Who killed the X-Men? - Brett Ratner" best embodies the 3rd & final sequel of the X-Men, the world's most beloved mutants.
What if these guys did it instead?
1.Brian Singer : See X-Men 1 & 2, also the trailer for superman returns looks promising
2.Sam Raimi : See Spider Man 1 & 2, dont miss out on Spider Man 3 either
3.Peter Jackson : He did wonders with LOTR, but King Kong put a slight chink in his armor.
Plus the inconsistensies with the comic books is horrendous.
1.The dark phoenix is a cosmic entity with the power to obliterate an entire solar system at will, NOT a split persona of miss jean grey.Of course factoring in even just 5 minutes of Shi'ar crossovers would have been too intimadating for brett.
2.Sentinels usually show up with their entire metallic anatomy(eg their whole bodies), NOT just their heads
3.Poor cyclops and professor X, they usually last longer than that
4.Juggernaut is NOT a mutant, cain marco is xavier's half bother who gained invincibility from the crimson gem of cytorrak

X-men mutates to final stage - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
X-Men III: "The Last Stand" is a graphically powerful and purposefully driven story of the mutant children and their telepathic teacher, Charles Xavier. But the story is not so much driven by a fine plot as it is by the weight of numerous stories from the comic book series. In an apparent attempt to appease Stan Lee, X-Men III attempts to wrap several X-Men stories into a movie that incorporates many bits and pieces of X-men comic lore. The result is an overly detailed script that leaves far to much to the screen writers and nothing to the audience. While the special effects are impressive, the story drones on and on about mutant rights and political, governmental and societal injustice against them. Unless you are an X-men comic book fan, watching this film still leaves you wondering why all the regular humans would be so adamant on snuffing out the cool guys with all the powers.
The acting is fairly good, along with the effects, and plays an important part in holding the story together. But the movie relies too much on Hugh Jackman's Wolverine character and this ultimately leaves the film wanting for strong lead. Aside from some notably funny lines, Jackman resorts to the angry razor-knuckled freak to try to rage his way through every conflict. It works but only for a while. After a few confrontations, the audience starts to look for intelligence and interest. But what it gets is more and more mutant powers sprayed all over the screen to help make everything better.
Sad as that might be to any other film, it actually works here and the action ultimately is what this film is all about. One wishes the director would have recognized this earlier in the film, though, because much of it is spent building a plot of human interest (ok mutant interest), not super powered show off time. But the culmination ultimately feels contrived and personal connections of this film feel left out there to blow in the storm.
I liked the film, because it represented the powers of the characters well and fed some decent battle scenes. But I lament the loss of focus this movie has with deciding what it is about. It felt like a thoughtful, but drawn out thinking movie for the first 70 minutes. But for the last 30 minutes it goes bonkers with power mongering and special effects. One expects some of this from a comic book series, but it is very plausible as a good fiction movie.
Watching the "Last Stand" of X-men III was a bit like Jean Grey's character- a splintered division of various stories from the X-Men comic book story line. If you are an X-Men fan from the comic book days, you may be in for a complete revisit of the true Jean Grey story and destination of the Phoenix. In the original comic book series, Phoenix becomes so powerful; she is a godlike being able to resurrect herself from death. But in this movie, Jean Grey and her story line is much cohesive, presumably to help save the audience the untenable myriad of plots that can't be understood by anyone without mutant level intelligence (for more info on the real Jean Grey story/ aka comic books, see en. wikipedia. org/ wiki/ Jean_Grey [remove the spaces from that URL] ).
Of notable interest in this film is Ellen Page as Kitty Pride (Sprite for the X-followers), who does a nice job of developing a enjoyable and personal heroine. Kelsey Grammer does very well as Beast making the character real to me, even more so than the comics, and that was refreshing. Rebecca Romin also does very well as the Raven Darkholme / Mystique character, becoming interesting and surprisingly human.
You will find some good acting here, but it?s a little hard to like it all. Overall, its a good action movie to fill up your violence dance card. But as a thoughtful film it fails. This would not normally be a problem for an action / superhero movie, but because this film tries to force itself into making social commentary for about 65% of its length, the fact that it never really develops more intellect through its conclusion is disappointing.
The film is not frightening and won't be a problem for children 10 or over, in my opinion. X-Men II suffers from some slight episodic doldrums as well, with everyone waiting around at the end hoping some eerie reference to a next movie might occur and well.... (I won't tell).
My recommendation- go see if it you like X-Men. Go see it if you like superhero movies. Its a fun, if not inconsistent ride into the mutant world. Still it is worth you money in the theatre.
"the cure" for the box office drought - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
X-Men: The Last Stand is a brilliant movie which is directed by Brett Ratner rather than the previous two X-Men movies by Bryan Singer. This was also a premiere movie at the Cannes Film Festival where critics did not need to say anything that would bash this adaptation. Not to name any movie names but let?s just say The Da Vinci Code. I am a big X-Men fan and I anticipated a much longer sequel has been announced that this is the final movie to end this trilogy. Hopefully Marvel changes their mind and decides to create another one but that?s just my opinion and probably others as well. This should not be the X-Men franchise?s ?Last Stand?. This movie was well directed and brought out the most important issue about X-Men which is the diversity between human beings and alienation of mutants alike.
The Last Stand is about the mutant ?cure? with a combination with The Dark Phoenix story by Chris Claremont. I am very surprised that this movie was able to fit in the whole entire story line of the Phoenix because in the Marvel comic books for The Dark Phoenix it is a saga. But like in the previous X-Men movies this movie still has the conflicting battle between Professor Xavier which believes in a peaceful relationship for mutant and human prosperity and Magneto that believes in the survival of the fittest.
The whole X-Men franchise cast is back Magneto (Ian Mckellen), Professor X (Patrick Stewart), Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Jean Grey (Famke Janssen), Storm (Halle Berry), Cyclops (James Marsden), Rogue (Anna Paquin), Iceman (Shawn Ashmoore), Pyro (Aaron Stanford), Mystique (Rebecca Romijn), and Colossus (Daniel Cudmore). And also with new additions to the X-Men team such as Beast (Kelsey Grammer), Angel (Ben Foster), and Kitty Pryde (Ellen Page). But there are also new additions to The Brotherhood which are the unstoppable Juggernaut (Vinnie Jones), Callisto (Dania Ramirez), and the rest of the morlock followers. Too bad Nightcrawler didn?t come back for this sequel. So many mutants and so little time I should say to see more of the impressive powers from X-Men: The Last Stand. But they finally show a lot of comic book features that were introduced to this latest addition to the X-Men Franchise. X-Men: The Last Stand most importantly describes the discrimination and alienation from different races and the pinnacle of civil war.
Movie goers should watch this incredible comic book adaptation for its thrilling action sequences, and incredible performance by the actors. X-Men: The Last Stand is compiled with a star studded cast which lights up the big screen with a great show to offer. This movie does not disappoint and is to be a box office smash hit. This is finally an outstanding movie this month of May. Let?s start out with the cons for X-Men: The Last Stand, I saw some mistakes that made me pretty iffy during the movie which were how long the movie was, the compilation of The Dark Phoenix story in such a short movie, and some of the emotional scenes. If the movie was at least longer than the previous two X-Men movies than there would be much better feeling and a better hype of the movie. I love the action sequences and the visual effects but the movie seemed too much into the special effects and not that much about the story which was upsetting.
Though throughout the movie there were much more pros to compensate for small amounts of cons listed. The atmosphere and the abilities of most of the mutants were absolutely visually captivating. Most of the ideas that were put into the movie were to entertain the comic book fans and fans of the franchise. Hopefully this movie will also stop the Box Office expectation drought with an explosive audience waiting to get a glimpse at the X-travagant blockbuster hit. To sum this movie review all up, I recommend this movie for everybody that loves action and superhero adaptation with out of your mind visual effects. And also for those X-Men fans out there, hope there is a number four and more to come even though there are X-Men character spin-offs.
Not worthy of the franchise. - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
***Warning*** There may be some spoilers in here so read at your own risk.
If we rated this movie only on visuals, it would score high for me. Special effects were outstanding, which I would expect from any of today's films.
The powers of every mutant were on full display, from Storm's use of her ability to control the weather, to Wolverines near invincibility. Some of the new mutants introduced were really cool and their powers were fun to watch. The scene with the bridge (you'll understand when/if you've seen it) was pretty cool, though ultimately it didn't make any sense. That, my friends, is the problem with this movie. Much, in fact probably a majority of the story points didn't make sense at all or were poorly planned out. It almost seems as if the writers of this film were solely concerned with getting in as many mutants as they could and packing as much random content into the movie as they could and get it all done by a certain date, or the world will explode or something. There CLEARLY wasn't a sufficient amount of planning that went into this story.
I'll start at the beginning. First of all, I know that they hinted at the Phoenix story arc at the end of the second movie, but honestly that was just not enough to really present this awesome and complicated saga all within this third movie. In the literature, the Phoenix's existence within Jean Grey is much more invasive and conflicting. The emotions and powers of the Phoenix run from purely good to purely evil and everywhere in between. In this movie however, the Phoenix is really cast as an evil force that doesn't just invade Jean Grey, it is made out to be Jean Grey herself which just doesn't set well with me. Through out the movie Jean Grey is presented as this detatched, evil presence that holds zero redemption. She kills... a lot of people... which would be okay if they just presented it more as a conflict and less as a horror movie villan.
The second issue that I have with the Phoenix is that they don't even attempt to explain why it is that she doesn't just go ahead and obliterate all of her enemies in one fell swoop. Like I said earlier, at least in the literature it was presented as this conflict between good and evil which held her back. In the movie, she doesn't seem held back much at all so you have to wonder why it is she floats along next to magneto during many of the battles and just kind of stands there detatched, not speaking or even indicating that she has a mind at all. She doesn't seem to have problems with killing people at all so why doesn't she just destroy them all and be done with it? There is not even an attempt to explain that. You can't just insert a mostly evil god into a movie and then just have them stand there half the time, filling space on the screen. If they wanted to do the Phoenix story properly they should have started strongly with working the story into the movies from the very first one, rather than trying to cram it all into the third one.
Second issue, Storm. Halle asked for more screen time for Storm, and she did definitely get it. I am a Storm fan, and I was definitely happy to see more screen time for her, but only half of it was good screen time, and the good screen time just was not explored properly. Perfect examples of good and bad Storm screen time are: GOOD = scene where she is standing on the balcony of the mansion, and Xavier realizes that her negative emotions are affecting the weather causing a thunderstorn to approach, and he comes out from teaching to talk with her. BAD = Storm getting into multiple catfight type wresting matches with this strange african american or latino female mutant who has teamed up with Magneto.
In that GOOD Storm scene, that would have been a perfect time to explore why it is that Storm is supposed to be one of the more emotionless characters in the X-men... IF they had presented her as that kind of efficient, emotionless second in command type from the beginning instead of the hip young fun character they made her out to be from the first movie. (Gina Torre's character, Zoe, in Firefly is much closer to where Storm should be.. though not even that much emotion) I have always thought that Storm is a good foil for the Phoenix/Jean Grey character, because they both have incredible power, but the difference is that Storm wants to be in control, and feels safe being in control, whereas the Phoenix aspect of Jean Grey likes to be out of control (almost identically to the Hulk), and strongly desires to be out of control. Storm is basically weakest when she is out of control, and Jean Grey is strongest when she is out of control. They could have explored this but they didn't. So what you get instead is an evil B horror movie villan in Jean Grey, and a spunky hip Storm who just happens to be in on more fights this time.
As far as the BAD Storm scenes, there are a few of them and you just have to ask yourself, why is she cat fighting with this woman and why doesn't she just electrocute her on the spot? (She eventually does, but it takes a LOT of catfighting to get to that point.)
Wolverine gets a similar treatment as Storm, where he's in a lot more of the movie even than he was in the previous movies (he is probably the most popular x-men character), but much of the added wolverine content is extremely sappy and does nothing to develop his character. We understand that there is a love triangle between him, Scott and Jean, but they just keep beating you over the head with that time and time again through out the movie. Most of Wolverine's scenes involve either him trying to get with Jean, or clawing people up. Even after two of the characters that he has known longer than pretty much anyone in the x-men are killed off, his role still seems fixed on those two things. One thing that Storm at least has going for her is that the deaths of those characters do begin to hint at a transformation for her, but Wolverine doesn't get developed at all.
Now, I do like that they decided to try to approach Rogue's story a bit more, but unfortunately they took her in the COMPLETE opposite direction than that which most x-men fans would have wanted to see her go, so that ended up being a dissapointment. There are several other mutants who are introduced into this film, but they too recieve shoddy development and their dialogue is mostly cheesy and goes along with the whole sappy feeling that you get from this whole movie.
So, I don't want to rant on too long but to sumerize. This movie is probably something you will want to see just to watch the special effects and see where all the mutants are now in this story, but you WILL walk out of the theater dissapointed. Virtually everyone who was in my theater was dissapointed. There are so many plot holes, and the execution of the Phoenix saga is weak. Much of the dialogue through the movie was so sappy and cheesy that many times people busted out laughing in the theater, and NOT the good kind of laughter (although there were a few sincerely humorous points of the movie). With all the killing off of characters they did in this movie, it would be hard to make another one so I won't be holding my breath for it, but if they do then i suggest that they do what the Batman series did with its most recent incarnation, and make it a bit less sappy or funny, and a bit more serious and semi-dark.
I will miss x-men - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
I can't say the rank of this movie in the trilogy but it lives to be an X-men movie like the others. Of course the action here is the best in the three movies. Really the fightr sequences were awesome and i specially likes Storm's new moves really great. But as a social and psychological movie it could have been better. Coz when the decision of Phoenix joining the brotherhood could have been based on more psycological reasons not only fun. As for the direction, we didn't feel the absence of Brian Singer. Here the director had a really good look at the cinematography and the colors and the caracters were deep we see that he got into the heart of everyone and knew how to bring it up in the movie. And the flashback start was really good it's like deja vu in the movie. And i really can't forget the fight moves they were really great and another good thing is that we saw a lot of new mutants but i was expecting more of Angel. His presence was unecessary as if he doesn't have anything to do. And the fight between all the utants in the end was really creative.
As for the theme it had a heart. coz we know how mutants are like outcasts. And a lot of them saw the cure as a solution to their problems especially Rogue. And there are here more feelings than ever. there's jealousy, love, hate, nostalgie... But it had a lot of unecessary drama I don't want to spoil it but some caracters died without a reason.
As for the acting it was pretty good of course after two movies the actors got into theur caracters and knew how to perform them. Especially Halle Berry who was really god and beautiful with the new hair cut. and I really like Beast he's a smart gentle mutant but he's also strong and a real fighter and although he has a large body he has a lot of fitness in his fight moves i really likes that. And Ian McKellen was as usual great playing Magneto. As for Rebecca it was a real surprise what happened to her in the movie and her reaction was superb i really loved it.
But if you see the ending it didn't appear as if it is the last stand. I will really love it if they continue this saga but they say that it was the last one but the ending say otherwise so we only have to wait.
Did not meet expectations - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
This movie was a disappointment. Or should I say more specifically the plot. The actors did a great job, there are some good scenes. And various funny points. If you are or were a fan of the comic book, you probally won't like this film.
WARNING!!
SPOILERS AHEAD
First off I thought there were going to be sentinals and that they were going to show the danger room. They did for all of three minutes. Angel was only in about three scenes. Then they go off and kill Scott Summers(aka Cyclops), and the Phoenix is the one that kills him. No mention that she is Dark Phoenix. Instead the plot made the Phoenix into a split personality that she has had scince childhood. Then Mystique is "cured" and becomes human. Naturally Magneto turns his back on her. Then the Phoenix kills Professor Charles Xavier. Also in the movie they make Juggernaut a mutant, which he is not. Also towards the end Jean Grey is herself killed. And if that wasn't bad enought Rogue is also "cured"
END OF SPOILERS!!
And at the end of the movie you're left with a feeling of that something went very, very wrong along the writing of this script. You feel like I wasted my money on this. I actually heard some obvious fans at the end saying things like "I stayed up for this" Overall this movie is missing something, a better plot. I suggest saving you're money.
Xmen3: a comic fan's perspective - X-Men: The Last Stand Reviews
The last two movies gave us the opportunity to see the characters we've all loved for years on the big screen. This last installment seemingly closes the book on the X-Men's foray into the movies, and one can't help but feel mixed feelings about it.
Let's start with action and visuals: STUNNING. The Beast's rage unleashed. The Angel, in all his magnificence. Magneto, his magnetic power in all its glory. Arclight! Juggernaut! Multiple Man! Yes, they're in this movie.
Visually, this film is amazing (pardon the pun). I literally never let go of my seat for the last 45 minutes of the movie. You WILL feel the sheer energy of this film.
Now, the story. Spoiler alert: Jean comes back to life-- no surprise there. But where you expect to see the Dark Phoenix saga, you will be reminded of Silent Hill instead. All-powerful Jean as Phoenix-- good thing! Jean killing C*****s and P******** *? What's going on here? No redemption in this one: you will feel... something else, and realize this movie is no fairy tale.
The movie also addresses real issues that plague the world today, such as terrorism. Face it: Magneto IS a terrorist by definition, and having a terrorist who can level entire blocks with a wave of his hand is not reassuring. You will understand why humans fear mutants so, and wonder what would happen if such a person really did exist in real life. Would we behave any differently?
Now, comic book fans know that X-Men is all about real situations, real choices, and the repercussions of being different in a world that fears you. But comic book fans will also feel that this movie seemingly compresses all that makes X-Men what it is, all the plots and subplots that they've grown to love, and makes do with an hour and a half to tell the story. It just isn't enough. And the compromises they made to tell this story, such as the fate of several pivotal characters, feel a little hard to swallow.
And perhaps that's what makes the movie a mixed bag: you expect humanity (mutantity?) to triumph in the end, but find yourself saddled with uncomfortable feelings of loss and betrayal-- not just for the heroes, but for the villains as well. Magneto's final fate will not sit well with you.
Finally, please sit through the credits. There's a little bit at the end that you have to see. Trust me.
It'll make you feel a lot better.
